The LESF is now in its seventh year, and is continuing to grow in scale and scope. Artists performing at the LESF over the last few years have included James Gilchrist, Ann Murray DBE, Nicky Spence, Roderick Williams, Iain Burnside and, as a poetry reader, Simon Callow. This July, our dramatic performance of song and poetry Over There! will again feature Mr Callow alongside Katie Bray, Nicky Spence and American bass-baritone Craig Colclough (Scarpia for ENO in 2016). It will run from 18th to 20th July at Wilton’s Music Hall with three evening performances at 8pm.

In addition, on 19th and 20th July at 1.30pm we will hold educational matinees for audiences of school children and children with their parents. These will last for just over an hour: a historical introduction will set the scene, before we perform an abridged version of the evening show. Following this, there will be a Q&A with all the performers. We found this to be a most rewarding format in 2016, when our schools performance resulted in a host of questions from children who were fascinated by the performances, the classically-trained voices they heard and the historical context of the occasion. Teachers were particularly pleased that the occasion cemented their pupils’ studies in both the history and music curricula.
